Night Photography
(And Black and White Photography)
By Ellie Race
The Main Idea
My whole project is based around Night Photography. I am confident in my choice and I have begun to plan out future photo-shoots. There is a range of different approaches to night photography and I plan to experiment with a whole host of different types. Some of the things that I want to be able to do include: Light Painting and taking images in an urban setting in the dark. These two ideas contrast each other greatly, while one gives the impression of a futuristic world with orbs of light and the other a more spooky real life setting. Night photography also offers the opportunity to explore, you can take images anywhere you want and of anything you want as long as it is dark. I think that I will enjoy the freedom that this will gives me, and excel at finding new creative ways to express my goals through my work successfully. I am not worried about not being able to go out and produce photo-shoots in the dark, as I am aware of the timing that needs to be taken into consideration for this type of photography. Another idea that I had for night photography was to photograph snow falling. As it is now mid-November I hope to be still focused on this subject when it does eventually snow. Other ideas include: taking images of nature in the dark, the night sky and also getting a model to stand in a position that gives a haunting look to the image. Something else that i am looking to do would be taking portrait images, however these images will be in black and white and fit in with the whole dakrness\night idea.
I don’t see myself getting board with this subject, there is a lot of different things that can be one inside this subject and I don’t think that I have limited or restricted my ability to create quality work.
Below is an example of some of the mind maps that I have created in order to develop my ideas:
